PANHANDLE KENNEL CLUB OF TEXAS

We are constantly amazed at the level of competition found at some of the small “boutique” shows around the country.  While some in the fancy moan about how entries are down, many exhibitors (and judges) find the slower pace of the smaller shows much more entertaining.  There’s plenty of time to enjoy the company of fellow exhibitors and an unrushed feeling to the ring action.

This past week the Panhandle Kennel Club of Texas gave us four such shows in Amarillo TX.  They started Thursday, ending the day with judge Charles Olvis in the final ring with the Brittany, GCH CH Rainbow Splash’s Ruggedly Handsome, the Pharaoh Hound, GCH CH Osiris Cowboy Casanova, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Dezperado’s  Halleluiah, the Norwich Terrier, GCH CH Dancy’s Rough Rider, the Papillon, GCH CH InVolo The king of Pop, the Bulldog, GCH CH Dowats The Gladiator, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Copperridge What’s Your Dream.

Taking the set’s first BIS was the Brittany, Beckett.  The RBIS would go to the Norwich, Ted.  Beckett is the country’s Number One Brittany, Number One Sporting Dog, and Number Four Dog All Breeds with 14 BIS this year.

Beckett, Ted, the Doberman, Glory, the Papillon, Jackson, and the Bulldog, Don Juan, would all be back in the final ring on Friday to plead their case with judge Paula Hartinger.  Joining them were the Whippet, GCH CH Debmar Lovin’ Dixie, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Telltail Coco Posh.

Ted, the Norwich would move up to the BIS, leaving the RBIS for the Bulldog, Don Juan.  It was the first BIS for Ted, who has several Owner-Handled Series BIS to his credit.  Congratulations to breeders/owners Nancy & Dwain Lentz and handler Betty M Bossio.

Judge Roger Hartinger would see the now familiar Brittany, Pharaoh Hound, Norwich, Papillon, Bulldog, & Corgi, along with the Boxer, GCH CH Cherkei’s Dick Tracy.  Finishing one/two were the Don Juan, the Bulldog, and Jackson, the Papillon.  It was the second BIS of the year for  the country’s Number One Bulldog and Number Seven Non-Sporting Dog.

Staying to the end for Sunday’s Closer were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Wingold’s Eagle Scout JH RN, the aforementioned Whippet, the Doberman, Glory, the Norwich, Ted, the Papillon, Jackson, the Bulldog, Don Juan, and the Corgi, Coco.  Packing up the set’s last big rosette was Jackson, the Papillon.  Taking home the reserve ribbon was Glory, the Doberman.

Jackson is AKC’s Number One Papillon and Number Four Toy Dog with 11 BIS this season.
